When we started planning the trip of a lifetime for Susan and Alex we kept three things in mind: their passion for food, their active lifestyle and their desire to spend some time relaxing. Where better to check all these boxes but Italy?
Susan and Alex opened their first envelope at the airport in Chicago and discovered that they were flying off to Rome. In Rome, Italy’s capital city and home of rich culture, we surprised our newlyweds with a cycling tour around the city. And because Rome is also home to delicious cuisine, we made sure that Susan and Alex enjoyed a lunch featuring some of Rome’s finest local fare at La Trattoria. Next stop for our gorgeous couple was the beautiful city of Florence. In Florence, we kept the delicious food tour alive with dinner at La Ménagère. Recently opened in a former housewares store, La Ménagère is a sprawling venue that houses a coffee bar, flower shop, restaurant and cocktail bar. From here we sent our honeymooners into wine country, with a stay at the stunning B&B Terenzi. Located in the Tuscan countryside just twenty-five kilometres from historic Grosseto, B&B Terenzi is set on a large wine estate with panoramic views of the valley. Here, Susan and Alex could relax by the beautiful pool, soak up the scenery and sample some of the region’s finest. We completed Susan and Alex’s trip to Tuscany with a stay at Pardini’s Hermitage on Giglio’s Island. A family home built in the 1950s, the Hermitage is now a boutique hotel run by a husband and wife duo, and reachable only by boat. Here, life is simple – sea, sun, nature and fresh food prepared lovingly for guests. For some final relaxation before heading back to Chicago, Susan and Alex indulged at CQ Terme in Rome, a luxurious spa resort known for its wellness packages and gourmet food experiences.
